The First Krishna West European Summer Festival (August 2026)
August 2026 was, without a doubt, a deeply inspiring month for everyone involved with Krishna West. I had the good fortune of helping organize two very different events, both united by the same spirit: the desire to learn, share, and serve together in Krishna consciousness.
The first was the gathering organized by the Bhaktivedanta Institute for Higher Studies (BIHS) in Nova Gokula, Brazil, on August 21 and 22, sponsored by Krishna West Brazil.

During two intensive days, fourteen speakers and the keynote presenter, His Holiness Hridayananda Das Goswami, shared their research and reflections on topics such as Philosophy, Dharma & Ethics; Language, Arts & Humanities; Mind, Culture & Society; and Life, Health & Environment. The presentations and roundtable discussions gave rise to meaningful conversations and new collaborative initiatives. Seeing so many people come together to study, exchange ideas, and contribute to the development of knowledge was truly inspiring.
Just a few days later came the first Krishna West Summer Festival in Croatia. Although its format was different and less academic, the experience was equally enriching. Over five days, participants attended classes on the Srimad Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad-gita, as well as seminars on philosophy, nonviolent communication, leadership, teamwork, and many other subjects that helped deepen both spiritual practice and community life.
The retreat was further enriched by the presence of His Holiness Hridayananda Das Goswami and His Grace Matsya Avatara Prabhu, both of whom offered inspiring presentations, thoughtful insights, and valuable personal exchanges throughout the festival. Their participation greatly contributed to the educational and spiritual atmosphere of the gathering and helped make the event a meaningful experience for newcomers and long-time practitioners alike.
One of the most remarkable moments of the festival was the world premiere reading of a chapter from Volume Two of Great Bharata. Participants had the rare opportunity to hear a portion of this highly anticipated work presented for the first time, by his author, generating enthusiasm among those attending the retreat. It was a unique privilege to witness a new chapter of this literary project being shared with the public for the very first time.
What stood out most, however, was the spirit of service that could be felt everywhere. The cooking team gave their all to ensure that everyone was well cared for, preparing meals with dedication and affection for every participant. The recording team worked tirelessly to capture the classes, presentations, and activities, making it possible for this valuable content to be shared more widely in the future. Meanwhile, the festival podcast unfolded alongside the event itself, gathering interviews, reflections, and spontaneous conversations while dozens of other activities were taking place simultaneously.
One of the most heartwarming moments was the theatrical performance prepared by a group of devotees who had rehearsed together for weeks via Zoom from different countries. Seeing the final performance on stage was moving, not only because of its quality but also because of what it represented: cooperation, creativity, and perseverance in service to a common purpose.
Throughout those five days, there was a very special atmosphere. There was joy, respect, friendship, and a genuine sense of belonging. People from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds worked together naturally, supporting one another and contributing their talents to make the festival a success. As part of the organizing team, it was deeply touching to witness how every service, no matter how small, helped create a meaningful experience for everyone.
At the conclusion of both events, I was left with a profound sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the efforts of all the participants, each of whom contributed in one way or another to the success of these initiatives; for friendships strengthened; for the teachings received; and for the opportunity to serve alongside so many dedicated people. Both the academic gathering in Brazil and the festival in Croatia demonstrated, each in its own way, the vitality of the Krishna West community. Whether through scholarly dialogue, philosophical inquiry, spiritual practice, or simple acts of service, participants found opportunities to learn from one another, strengthen friendships, and deepen their commitment to the mission of sharing Krishna consciousness in today's world.
August 2026 was a very special month for Krishna West. It was a month of community, learning, service, and inspiration. Most of all, it reminded us of the importance of working together and left us with renewed enthusiasm to continue serving the mission of our spiritual master and Srila Prabhupada.
